The Arkansas Nursing Research Day is an annual statewide conference that serves as a pivotal platform for nurses and healthcare professionals to showcase nursing research. For over a decade, this event has brought together faculty, staff, and students from all over Arkansas to explore the field of nursing research. This event underscores the commitment to advancing nursing knowledge and improving healthcare outcomes through collaboration and the exchange of evidence-based insights and methodologies. The conference features student-led poster presentations, faculty podium presentations, and this year, it will include presentations by two distinguished keynote speakers.
This year’s theme is Nursing Excellence: Using Research to Advance Science and Practice.

Janiece Taylor, PhD, RN, FAAN, is an assistant professor on the research/ education track at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Her research is focused on identifying and addressing disparities in pain in older women from underrepresented racial ethnic groups and improving quality of life and health outcomes in people aging with disabilities. Dr. Taylor’s research is strongly connected to her 10 years of clinical practice in long-term care and women’s health settings.
She earned her PhD in nursing from the University of Texas at Austin. She completed an Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biobehavioral Pain Research at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Taylor was selected as the first nurse in the Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Harold Amos Fellowship Program.
Dr. Taylor is currently testing interventions to address pain and depressive symptoms in older African American women and women aging with disabilities. Throughout her career, she has received funding from the John A. Hartford Foundation, National Institute of Nursing Research, Cornell TRIPLL Center, Mayday Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Harold Amos Medical Faculty Program. She is the deputy director of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing RESILIENCE Center and principal faculty in the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Center for Equity in Aging.
DALME-RICKEL LECTURESHIP: DR. NICHOLAS ODOM, University of Alabama at Birmingham
Dr. Nick Odom is the Doreen C. Harper Endowed Professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Director of Caregiver and Bereavement Support Services in the UAB Center for Palliative and Support Care. Dr. Odom is board certified in advance practice palliative care nursing, with over 10 years’ experience in critical care and over 10 years’ experience in telepalliative care. His program of research focuses on developing and testing early palliative care coaching interventions for minority and historically under-resourced family caregivers of individuals with serious illness, particularly advanced cancer and heart failure. He is currently funded by the National Cancer Institute.
