UAMS College of Nursing: Associate Dean for Research

The UAMS College of Nursing (CON) seeks a visionary scientist to enhance and promote innovative research as our Associate Dean of Research. This is a 12-month, full-time tenure/tenure-track faculty position with 50 percent effort as Associate Dean and the remaining effort engaging in teaching, research, and/or service commensurate with Associate or Full Professor rank.

The Associate Dean for Research reports directly to the Dean of the College of Nursing and represents the colleges’ research interests within UAMS and the University of Arkansas System. Responsibilities include mentoring faculty in research and scholarship, coordinating the College of Nursing’s Research-Intensive Faculty Experience, and fostering research collaborations across campus and the state.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for the research mission of the College of Nursing and UAMS.
  • Mentor individual faculty members in development and implementation of their programs of research/scholarship and also develop mentorship skills among experienced research faculty.
  • Formulate, in conjunction with the faculty and administration, a clear vision and strategic plan for the research mission.
  • Manage the pre-and post-award grants support service for the college and supervise the research support staff.
  • Coordinate the college’s Intramural Grants Program.
  • Provide guidance regarding institutional requirements for research in alignment with the office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation.
  • Participate in UAMS committees/taskforces/councils relevant to the research mission of the institution and college.
  • Lead recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention of research faculty and make recommendations to the dean.
  • Provide guidance for the Nursing PhD Program.
  • Coordinate the college’s Quarterly Research Meetings, seminars, and workshops for faculty and students.
  • Maintain an extramurally funded research program as either a PI or Co-I.
  • Engage in teaching and scholarly activities appropriate to faculty rank.
  • Lead projects and initiatives as requested by the dean of the College of Nursing.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • An earned research doctorate
  • Academic credentials and leadership skills to qualify for associate or full professor rank
  • A meritorious program of extramural funded research, including National Institute of Health RO1 or Center Grant funding
  • Active clinical focused research program
  • Excellent mentoring skills
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating team science and faculty research collaboration
  • Excellent understanding of federal and foundation funding opportunities
  • Experience collaborating with nursing scientists preferred
