DNP Nurse Practitioner Plans of Study

BSN to Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Six Nurse Practitioner Tracks

Sample Full-time Plans of Study (3-year)

There are six possible nurse practitioner tracks in which students can enroll: (1) acute care pediatric nurse practitioner, (2) primary care pediatric nurse practitioner, (3) adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, (4) adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner, (5) family nurse practitioner, and (6) psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Both a three-year and four-year plan of study are available. This sample plan of study is based on three years to completion. The first three semesters are the same for each of the nurse practitioner tracks.

During the fourth semester (Fall II), students in the acute care pediatric nurse practitioner or in the primary care pediatric nurse practitioner tracks take a pediatric specific health assessment theory and practicum (NURS 5120 and NURS 5121) in lieu of the lifespan focused advanced health assessment courses (NURS 5205 and NURS 5306). Beginning in the fifth semester, students enroll in their specialty focused nurse practitioner theory and practicums. The specialty courses are referred as Specialty Theory and Specialty Practicum (I, II, III) for place holding purposes within the sample plan of study. The specific names of the nurse practitioner specialty course are listed at the bottom of the plan of study.
