Paul Ropp, DNP, MNSc, BSN, RN, a student in the UAMS College of Nursing PhD program, has been named as a Veteran Healthcare Program Jonas Scholar for 2014-16. As part of this award, he will receive financial assistance plus travel money to attend the Jonas Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. This is our third student who has been designated as a Jonas Scholar in the previous four years. Others are Linda Tate and Kerry Jordan.
As recipient of a Jonas Center grant, Paul is part of a national effort to stem the faculty shortage and prepare future nurses as America’s healthcare system continues to evolve.
Donald Jones, co-founder of the Jonas Center, said, “The call for nurses – and thus the faculty to prepare them – is massive. Healthcare in America has never been more complex, yet tens of thousands of would-be nurses are turned away from the profession each year. We’ve stepped up the pace and expanded ur programs to meet this need.”
