The UAMS College of Nursing recently arranged for the donor of the Cammy Giffin Haynes Endowed Scholarship to meet the two students who received the scholarship this year. Mrs. Darlene Giffin of Little Rock, seated in the center and the donor, met Randi Marshall (left), a BSN student who resides in Maumelle. Randi previously attended Southeast Arkansas College and is a first generation college student. Andrea Fair (right) is the other scholarship recipient. Andrea resides in Northwest Arkansas and is on the RN to BSN/Master’s program track. She previously attended Northwest Arkansas Community College.
The Cammy Giffin Haynes scholarship was created in 2002 by Darlene and her husband, the late Jerry Giffin, to memorialize their daughter, Cammy Giffin Haynes, a practicing nurse who was killed in August 1998 in an automobile accident. The endowed scholarship goes to two BSN nursing students. Joining in the celebration were (standing and left to right): Dustin Haynes, Cammy’s son; Jake Burns and wife Noelle, Cammy’s daughter; Dr. Patty Cowan, Dean of UAMS College of Nursing; Lisa Nichols, Cammy’s sister; Jerrod Haynes, Cammy’s son, and his wife Samantha.
The dinner meeting was a special way for the Haynes family to honor the nursing profession and reflect on their loved one, Cammy Giffin Haynes, whose legacy will live forevermore in the UAMS College of Nursing.
