Designed for You!
The BSN to Ph.D. program is designed to prepare the applicant who has completed a BSN in nursing for a nursing career as an educator, researcher, administrator, or clinician. It is not designed to prepare a certified nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist. Students entering this program receive a Ph.D. nursing degree; the BSN student completing the Ph.D. degree in nursing does not earn a master’s degree. Students wishing to earn a master’s degree must first enter the master’s program and complete those requirements before applying to the Ph.D. program.
Programs of Study
For the individual entering with a master’s degree in nursing, the PhD program of study will include a minimum of 81 credit hours, which includes all the core courses for the doctoral program, 12 hours of electives, and 18 hours of dissertation study. Our small cohort sizes create an ideal atmosphere for developing meaningful professional relationships. Students often form strong, lasting connections with their peers and mentors, relationships that enhance learning, provide ongoing support, and contribute to scholarly partnerships that will last a lifetime. Students from across the state enroll in the program. Courses are offered in a blended format using face-to-face and Blackboard or Zoom delivery. Both the MNSc–PhD and BSN–PhD programs consist of required coursework, electives, a doctoral comprehensive examination, and a dissertation.
