Welcome to the UAMS College of Nursing Preceptor Hub. This site contains information and resources to support your preceptorship experience.
Preceptors play a crucial role in the education of our graduate nursing students. Preceptorship enables students to apply the knowledge they acquire in the classroom in supervised clinical settings, gain real-life insights from expert clinicians, become confident and competent in their new nursing role, and start the transition from registered nurse to advanced practice registered nurse.
Thank you to all our preceptors.
Becoming a Preceptor
To be a preceptor for a nurse practitioner student, you must be licensed as a nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician, and have at least 1 year of experience in that role. Our graduate nursing students complete 750 – 1000 hours of preceptorship, experiencing all aspects of their future role. Students are also able to complete some clinical experiences in more specialized areas.
If you are interested in becoming a preceptor for UAMS, please contact the specialty coordinator https://nursing.uams.edu/programs/dnp/

Typhon: Our Student Clinical Tracking Software
UAMS College of Nursing uses Typhon to track student clinical hours and experiences, and complete administrative tasks. When you agree to be a preceptor for a student, you will receive an email with your Typhon log in. For most specialties, verification of clinical experiences and evaluations are completed through Typhon, although you can request a paper copy if desired.
