The Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-PCNP) is a Registered Nurse educated at the Doctoral level with expertise in the care of the entire adults including young adults (emancipated minors & late adolescents) adults, and older adults (young-old and old-old adult) population who have both acute and chronic health needs.
NOTE: Due to financial and logistical constraints, a minimum of ten new enrollees are required for the College of Nursing to offer the AG-PNCP program. If the minimum cohort is not achieved, individuals who have applied to the AG-PNCP program may instead be routed to the FNP specialty.
AG-PCNP Role
The AG-PCNP provides advanced nursing care across the adult age continuum by providing direct healthcare services that incorporate assessment, management, health promotion, protection, and disease prevention. The AG-PCNP performs comprehensive health assessments, order and interpret the full spectrum of diagnostic tests and procedures, use differential diagnosis to reach a medical diagnosis, construct and order a plan of care, and evaluate the outcomes of interventions for adult geriatric patients.
The AG-PCNP educational preparation focuses on restorative care, social support, physical and mental health status as well as assessing the impact of family, community, and living environment of adults. The AG-PCNP educational process includes the stabilization of individuals, minimizing physical and psychological complications, and maximizing individual health and/or end-of-life management.
