Overview of the RN-to-BSN Online Program

RNs who have an associate degree, a diploma, or a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field and who want to earn their BSN are eligible to enter this web-based program. All of the RN-to-BSN didactic courses are online.  The standard prerequisites must be taken prior to entering the program. See the eligibility and admission requirements for full details. To speak with our recruiter, please call 501-686-5374.

Because the RN to BSN courses are currently available online, students are able to study and participate in class discussions anytime day or night, according to when the student is available. There are associated practicum hours with four of the seven courses (see below). The practicum requirements are 8 hours per week per clinical course. These hours will be carried out within the student's Area Health Education Center (AHEC) counties under the supervisor of an approved preceptor. Clinical practicum hours may be done all at once or spread out over the week.  The list of courses below are required for graduation. They may be taken in any sequence. Full-time students can complete the program in one year while part-time students take approximately two years:

  • Orientation for Advanced Placement Students

  • Issues in Nursing and Health Care

  • Introduction to Research

  • Community Health Nursing Theory and Practicum

  • Leadership and Management Theory and Practicum

  • Nursing Care of the Older Adult Theory and Practicum

  • Ambulatory Care Theory and Practicum

Our online courses are based on adult education principles such as adult students becoming lifelong independent learners. Just as nurses attempt to help their patients to become more independent, so our faculty attempt to make students more independent. Students will delve into the course content with guidance from the faculty but the faculty do not direct every step the student takes. Rather, the faculty serve as resources when the student needs them. Each student is free to explore course content at the speed and in the sequence most appropriate to their own learning styles and professional interests. Faculty give feedback at important points during a student's learning process and help the student put the course content in perspective. For additional information about the RN to BSN program read our Frequently Asked Questions section.
