Beaumont Foundation’s $40,000 Fund Scholarships for First-Generation Students

Feb. 16, 2017 | The Beaumont Foundation has given the UAMS College of Nursing $40,000 to fund scholarships for 16 first-generation college students.

The students each received $2,500 as recipients of the Deborah Darsa Carmon Beaumont Foundation Scholarship. There were eight recipients during the fall semester and an additional eight recipients for the spring semester. The students were from the BSN, MNSc, DNP and PhD programs.

“Each and every student was deserving of this scholarship and all were extremely thankful to the Beaumont Foundation for its generosity,” said Patricia A. Cowan, Ph.D, R.N., dean of the College of Nursing. “These funds helped remove some of the financial burden and allowed them to focus on their education.”

The Beaumont Foundation, located in Beaumont, Texas, was founded in 2001. It has awarded more than $125 million in grants and scholarships in support of its mission to improve education, health care and social services.
