Award Nominations for 2008 Gamma Xi

            Annually, the Gamma Xi Chapter of STTI seeks to recognize those people who promote and uphold excellence within the profession of nursing. Members can be recognized in the following areas: Leadership, Nursing Practice, Fostering Professional Standards and Nursing Education. A non-member can be recognized for Scholarship.

            The awards committee would like to encourage the members of our chapter to nominate any active member of the organization who has made significant contributions to nursing in one of the designated areas. If you wish to make a nomination, please complete the form below or e-mail the chair of the Gamma Xi Awards Committee explaining how the nominee meets the criteria identified below.             After nominations have been received, the Awards Committee will ask each nominee to complete a resume and include the names of three individuals to be used as references. The committee will then select the award recipients on the basis of information submitted for each award category. Nominations will cease April 1, 2008. The award winners will be recognized at the Spring Induction Ceremony on April 13, 2008.

Award for Excellence in Leadership

  1. Recognize as a Nursing Leader
    1. Futuristic
    2. Risk-taker
  2. Visionary, farsighted and innovate
    1. Creative, uses new ideas or different approaches to patient care, education or research.
    2. Recognizes the contributions of others, utilizes the strengths of others and establishes an esprit de corps.
    3. Recognizes leadership potential and assists others in realizing their potential.

Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice

  1. Communication
    1. With clients, families and community
    2. With members of the healthcare team
    3. Written communication (i.e., documentation of care, contributions to literature on nursing practice).
    4. Shares clinical abilities with Sigma Theta Tau at members and or the nursing community.
  2. Clinical skills
    1. Problem solving skills
    2. Other skills related to area of practice
  3. Improvement of nursing care.

 Award in Fostering Professional Standards

  1. Leadership role in fostering standards
  2. A risk-taker who improves standards of nursing practice in:
    1. Schools of nursing
    2. Continuing education
    3. State and National government
  3. Involved in research
  4. Visionary
  5. Has an impact on Sigma Theta Tau and nursing

 Excellence in Nursing Education

  1. Nurse educator in a nursing education program, in-service, continuing or consumer education.
  2. Identifies with a teaching and/or administrative role
  3. Effect of activities on students, administration, organization and/or public
  4. Education and scholarly contributions to Sigma Theta Tau and nursing

 Award for Mentorship

  1. Actively shapes and promotes the career of a nurse or the development of the chapter.

  2. Freely shares own resources for the growth and development of the individual or the chapter.

  3. Maintains the mentoring relationship over time.

Non-member Excellence in Scholarship

We recognize and individual who is not a nurse, but who has made significant contributions to nursing scholarship.
