PhD in Nursing Admissions

Acceptance into the program occurs as completed applications are submitted, reviewed and interviews held.  See Program Delivery and Admissions Requirements for more information.

Post BSN to PhD

The applicant with a BSN will need to meet all the admission requirements for the PhD program and must have 1000 hours of documented clinical nursing practice before enrolling in the PhD level courses. In addition, an applicant will need approval from the master’s specialty coordinator of the applicant’s chosen clinical, administrative, or nursing education specialty.   See Program Delivery for more information.

Post Master’s to PhD

The applicant must hold a master’s degree in nursing from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program and show documentation of a minimum GPA of 3.65 in all course work for the master’s degree.

Applicants desiring admission with only a master’s degree in another field, will be considered. If admitted, these students will be required to complete selected prerequisite course work in nursing.

DNP to PhD

If you are a DNP seeking a PhD, please schedule an appointment to meet with Dr. Anita Mitchell at 501-526-7860 or BAWest@uams.edu.  Transcripts will be reviewed individually.
