The Dr.
Elizabeth O'Connell Scholarship
| Several representatives from the 1961
and 1962 UAMS College of Nursing classes are working toward raising
enough money to endow a scholarship to honor Dr. Elizabeth O'Connell.
These graduates believe that Dr. O'Connell, a Professor of Maternal and
Child Health during the college's early years, is truly a remarkable
individual and most deserving of a scholarship in her name. While Dr.
O'Connell did not spend many years at UAMS, her knowledge, student
expectations and professionalism made a large impact on all of the
student body. She left UAMS to further her teaching career, first at
West Virginia School of Nursing, then at the University of
Missouri-Columbia School of Nursing. She received her Doctorate in
Child Development after her retirement at the age of 65 and now, at more
that 80 years of age, continues to use her skills to guide others in the
care of children. She maintains a daily exercise program that
includes walking at least ten miles a week and swimming laps
three times a week. |

Dr.
Elizabeth O'Connell |
$25,000 must be received in order to
endow a scholarship for the College. We are more than half-way toward
reaching this goal. Your generous donation will go a long way toward
honoring a very deserving individual who has devoted her career to the
health and well being of infants, children and mothers. Dr.
O'Connell's ability to provide excellence in teaching has made a
profound impact on a large number of students who were privileged to
have had her as their pediatric professor.
If you graduated during the years 1957
through 1962, or even if you didn't and would like to help make this
scholarship a reality, please send your donation or your pledge to the
following address:
