General NLRC Guidelines

Junior Nursing Students in the NLRC

Users of the NLRC must sign in before using any of the resources of the lab.  The sign-in sheet is located at the desk.

Please refrain from eating in the lab.  Bottled water is allowed in the lab but we ask you to keep your drink with your back-pack.  Your back-pack may be left in the open cubicles or you may use your assigned locker.  You are responsible for any of your valuables, it is not under lock and key in the lab.

We ask you to work with us in taking care of this area and the equipment.  We have two hospital areas (101 & 105) and one clinical area (102c).  Remember to remove bedspread to the foot of the bed and sit on the beds for physical exams with shoes removed.  Replace bedspreads, physical exam bed paper, and leave equipment in place and tidy the area before you leave.  Report any equipment problems or other concerns to the NLRC coordinator's desk.  Only the NLRC staff has permission to locate equipment and supplies in the cabinets and storage areas.  We are glad to help you and are available for any questions you might have.

GUIDELINES FOR CHECKING OUT EQUIPMENT
FOR PRACTICE OR CLASSROOM DEMONSTRATION

Students and/or faculty may sign out equipment for one-week intervals and extension can be permitted.  The director of the NLRC must approve equipment sign-out.  There is some equipment that may not be removed, but can be utilized in the lab.

PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR AND ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

During skills sessions (practice, testing) be aware of your own actions.  Practice respectful language and behavior at all times.  Practice and promote leadership skills for you and others.

TELEPHONE USE

There is a telephone on the desk for faculty and student use.  If you need to make a long distance telephone call, your calling card must be used.

PERSONAL SAFETY

The campus emergency number is 686-7333 for medical emergencies.  You must give the operator the building, floor, and room numbers (Ed 2, 5/101).

If any student has an allergic reaction (latex or other), call the medical emergency number.  An epinephrine is available at the main desk.

If needed, the lab workers can also do a glucose screen.

Escort by campus security is available in the evening.  UAMS Police Department phone number is 686-7777.

LOST AND FOUND

If an item is left or lost at the NLRC, there is a lost and found box at the front desk.  Call or email the coordinator to report lost items.
