BSN
Honors Program
Introduction
The BSN Honors Program is
designed to cultivate the top 10% of BSN students for graduate studies, including the option of entering the BSN to
PhD Program in Nursing. The program
has clear admission and curriculum requirements, and includes a mentoring
program.
Admission
Requirements
Potential
Honors students will be identified during the fall semester of the junior year
and are invited to consider participation in the program.
During the fall semester, they will be assigned to a faculty mentor, who
will guide the student in completing the application for admission to the Honors
Program. The application is due December 1.
Pre-Admission Criteria

Acceptance into the College of Nursing BSN program.

Entering
GPA of 3.0 on all pre-requisite course work.

A
score of 90 or above on the Pre-admission Exam.
Admission
to the program will be based on the following criteria:

Acceptance in the Pre-admission component of the program.

Three letters of support from faculty.
-
Resume
including evidence of leadership and community involvement.
-
A written essay on the student’s long-term goals and why they
want to participate in the Honors Program.

A
GPA in nursing courses of 3.5 or above.

Progression
Criteria
To
remain in the program, students must maintain a 3.5 GPA in all nursing courses.
Note:

There is no assurance that students will be able to transfer graduate
honor courses to another school.

Graduate Honors Courses are counted as baccalaureate credits.

Upon completion of the
baccalaureate program, students must meet all criteria for admission into the master's program.
There is no
assurance students will be admitted to specialty/MNSc programs.
