Recognition Ceremony Awards
 

The following awards are given out by faculty to graduating students, by graduating students to graduating students, and by graduating students to faculty every May at the College of Nursing Recognition ceremony which takes places the day before graduation. Faculty and students nominate each other via an on-line voting process each spring. Click here to see the 2009 Recognition Ceremony Award winners.
 

Faculty to Student Awards


Faculty Gold Key Award

 

The Faculty Gold Key Award is the highest honor presented to the graduating senior who has demonstrated academic excellence, excellence in nursing practice, the ability to be a participant leader in professional and community activities, and demonstrated personal and professional growth.


Faculty Award for Outstanding Achievement and Contributions

A special award is presented to a senior student who has demonstrated leadership among students which fostered closer student relationships with the College and/or across the campus; efforts that enhanced student‑faculty relationships; and abilities that encouraged other students to participate in their professional organization.


Ina Swetnam Award

Established by UAMS College of Nursing Alumni in honor of Ina Swetnam, this award to a graduating senior consists of a pin and the recipient's name engraved on the award plaque.
Criteria for this award are:
1. Demonstrated excellence in practice with maternity patients
2. Scholastic achievement


Little Rock Department Club Award

Each year the Little Rock Departmental Club presents a cash award to two senior students. The award is based on academic achievement and leadership ability, as demonstrated in professional activities.


Gloria Rauch Award

This award is given by Donna, Robert, and Robert Guy Middaugh in loving memory of Ms. Gloria Rauch, Professor of Nursing at UAMS College of Nursing.  Ms. Rauch dedicated 34 years of her life to the pursuit of excellence in nursing care of children. To honor that pursuit, we recognize a graduating senior nursing student who exemplifies her love and professionalism.

Criteria for this award:

1. Senior who has demonstrated excellence in practice with infants, children and their families.
2. Scholastic achievement.


Griffey Professionalism Award

This award is presented both a male and a female senior BSN graduate who demonstrates leadership in setting the professional standards in the nursing practice.


Virginia Jarratt Award

Established in honor of Virginia Jarratt, this award will honor a graduating Hope Campus Senior
who demonstrated excellence in leadership and scholastic achievement.


Outstanding Hope Student Award

Awarded to the outstanding Hope Campus graduating Senior who has demonstrated excellence in:
1.  Compassionate, comprehensive nursing practice
2.  Professional growth
3.  Community leadership


Outstanding RN to BSN Award

Awarded to the outstanding RN to BSN graduating Senior.  This student has demonstrated excellence in:
1.  Compassionate, comprehensive nursing practice
2.  Professional growth
3.  Community leadership


Veronica McNeirney Award

Established by Veronica McNeirney, Professor Emeritus in the College of Nursing. This cash award is presented to a graduate student who has demonstrated an exceptional humanistic approach in caring for adult clients.


Kathryn "Bucky" Thomas Award

For the graduate student who demonstrates kindness, compassion, and gives positive encouragement to others and shows respect and loyalty to the College of Nursing.”


Willa Belle Adams Award


Established by the family of Willa Belle Adams. This cash award is presented to a graduating MNSc student who exemplifies excellence in nursing.
 


The Outstanding Future Nurse Leader Award

This cash award is presented to a graduate student who has demonstrated exceptional potential for outstanding contribution to the profession as a nurse leader.

 

Student to Student Awards


The Nightingale Award

Awarded to the Senior class leader who:

  • Demonstrates the desire to contribute to the nursing profession in the future;

  • Has participated in civic and community activities at the state and national level


Nursing Excellence Award

Awarded to the graduating Senior who:

  • Demonstrates outstanding class and clinical preparation

  • Demonstrates competence in nursing situations

  • Communicates well with other students and faculty

  • Is creative in the delivery of care

  • Looks further than the textbook for answers

  • Assists other students during difficult times


Nurse's Nurse Award

Awarded to the graduating Senior recognized as:

  • The nurse you would most like to care for you if you were ill.

  • The nurse who has the ability to show real empathy for patients as individuals

  • And whose loyalty lies with the patient first.


Most Supportive Student Award

Awarded to the graduating Senior who, throughout this program, has:

  • Encouraged classmates,

  • Given sincere positive strokes,

  • Been willing to share time and talents with classmates,

  • Facilitated group morale,

  • Supported other students through triumphs and trials.


Student to Faculty Awards


Best Classroom Instructor Award

“Classroom" here is defined as the traditional classroom, online classroom, and/or interactive video.

The criteria for this award are:

  • Encourages classroom participation and motivates students to participate,

  • Makes explanations clear and concise,

  • Has a sense of humor,

  • Is punctual and prepared,

  • Covers stated objectives,

  • Promotes an atmosphere conducive to learning,

  • Makes outside  resource material accessible to students.


Best Clinical Instructor Award:

The criteria for this award are:

  • Demonstrates competence in the clinical area,

  • Has a broad knowledge of pathophysiology and the ability to apply it,

  • Recognizes students' area of weakness and provides an opportunity for improvement,

  • Has reasonable expectations of the student.


Most supportive Faculty Award

The criteria for this award are:

  • Recognizes each student as a unique individual,

  • Offers constructive criticism:  Focuses on the students' strengths rather than weaknesses,

  • Creates an environment conducive for students to express themselves without fear of reprisal,

  • Offers self to students within, as well as outside, the clinical environment.


 
Best Professional Role Model

The criteria for this award are:

  • Demonstrates professional behavior with clients and in nursing issues;

  • Participates in nursing activities outside UAMS;

  • Is active in civic and community activities;

  • Has a desire to contribute to the students’ learning in class and clinical;

  • Promotes an atmosphere conducive to learning.


Outstanding Hope Faculty Award
The criteria for this award are:

  • Encourages participation and motivates students to participate

  • Makes explanations clear and concise

  • Has a sense of humor

  • Is punctual and prepared

  • Covers stated objectives

  • Promotes an atmosphere conducive to learning

  • Makes outside resource material accessible to students


Outstanding Graduate Faculty Member Award

The criteria for this award are:

  • Recognizes each student as an individual;

  • Offers constructive criticism which focuses objectively on students’ strengths and weaknesses;

  • Creates an environment of collegiality;

  • Makes explanations clear and concise;

  • Promotes an atmosphere conducive to learning;

  • Demonstrates professional behavior within the learning environment;
