2009 Summer New Junior BSN Students

Frequently Asked Questions

We in the College of Nursing understand that you are both excited and anxious about starting the BSN program in May.  We want to assure you that we are not going to leave you hanging on a thread somewhere.

As new questions come up this list will be updated.

The following are a few of the most frequently asked questions we have been receiving lately.  If you have a question that is not answered via this site, please feel free to email me, khstump@uams.edu.

What is pre-matriculation?

Pre-matriculation is May 20-22 for Little Rock students and May 21-22 for Hope Students.  This is a very important orientation to the College of Nursing.  You will also be given your preadmission exam on the first day.  You will also begin the registration process, get your badge, tour the hospital, and many other things.  For more information read Ms. Calhoun’s letter.  For more information for Hope Students read Dr. English's letter.

How do I know the cost for tuition and fees?

Click here for the estimated cost for tuition and fees.  These are estimated expenses because we can not guarantee that there will not be any changes over the semesters.  Tuition increases every Fall semester.  We are expecting that it will be no more than 5%, but until it has been approved by the UA System Board of Trustees, we can not tell you for sure.

Does the College of Nursing have a payment plan?

No.  Please see the College's payment policy.

When can I see the course schedule for Summer?
You will not receive a Summer course schedule or Syllabi until you are on campus during pre-matriculation.  The reason for this is because at first glance it is very confusing and overwhelming.  We would like to present it to you and go over it so that you have a complete understanding of what is expected of you.

What days and times should I be expect to be on campus for class?

You will need to be plan to be on campus for Summer courses Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  You may also be required to attend some Saturday clinicals.  This will vary for some students, but it is important that you make plans to be on campus every day.

When can I purchase books?

Once the book list is posted you may purchase your books.  Please do not purchase books based on previous semesters.  Faculty are given the opportunity each semester to change books.  Although the book may have the same title, it could be a  new version with significant differences.

When can I purchase uniforms?

You DO NOT need to purchase uniforms prior to the start of Summer classes. During pre-matriculation you will be given exact guidelines as to what is required, color, shoes, lab coat, etc., along with a demonstration by the senior students on how to wear them and where to sew the patches.  You will be given plenty of time to purchase uniforms before they are required.
