The Baccalaureate Nurse |
![]() |
The Baccalaureate Nurse is a special person who enjoys the satisfactions of a career in professional service. To excel in nursing, you need an outstanding education from excellent teachers in a first class educational institution.
You'll enjoy the best of two worlds . . . the advantages of attending a comprehensive academic health sciences center at a major university and the atmosphere of a small college.
The educational resources include the Learning Resource Center, Nursing Research Center, Computer Lab, and affiliations with three teaching and tertiary care hospitals: University Hospital, Arkansas Children's Hospital, and John L. McClellan Memorial Medical Center. Each hospital offers outstanding opportunities for clinical experience. The UAMS Library holds the state's largest collection of health sciences publications.
Extracurricular activities of the College support classroom experiences and build professional relationships, teamwork, and pride through the Student Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau&emdash;the international honor society for nurses&emdash;and other professional nursing organizations.

The College offers a baccalaureate program in professional nursing and is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing. The upper division professional nursing courses are completed in residence at the College campus in Little Rock with the first courses beginning in the summer following admission.
Admission to the nursing program requires successful completion of a minimum of 64 hours of required general education courses. These may be taken at any accredited college or university.
The College is committed to the policy of providing educational opportunities to all qualified students regardless of their economic or social status, and does not discriminate on the basis of disabilities, race, color, sex, creed, or national origin.
The baccalaureate program prepares highly competent practitioners of nursing for professional careers. Graduates give state of the art nursing care in ambulatory, acute care, and long-term settings to individuals, families and communities. At the completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the state board examination for licensure.
Students seeking admission to the College should begin the application process during the Fall semester of the academic year preceding the summer of anticipated enrollment. Students are expected to have completed all general education requirements before entering into the UAMS College of Nursing.
