Cindy Allen, BSN
Cindy works at the Medical Park Orthopedic Clinic in Batesville, AR
 

Barbara Bishop, BSN
The last time I had seen my nursing school roommate, Sandy (Mickle) White, was at our 10-year class reunion.  (That was 25 years ago!)  We met this past February in Philadelphia.  After 18 years in South Dakota, my husband and I are retiring to Montana.

Mary Lynn Blessing, BSN, MNSc
Mary retired as an Advanced Practice Nurse at the Veteran's Hospital in Little Rock.    

Jo Anna Brown, BSN
Jo Anna currently works at the Neurological Associates, PLC in their Research Division.
 

Vera Gail Byrd
Vera has been married for 36 years to Jerry Byrd, manager of Kroger Pharmacy in Batesville. They have 3 grown children: Jerry Jr., Sandra and Laura. Jerry Jr. has a BS in Aviation from Henderson State University and flies for Wal-Mart. Sandra has a BS from ASU. Laura is a junior Pharmacy student at UAMS. They have 4 beautiful grandchildren. Vera is a surgical pre-admission testing nurse. She is active in church at Allen Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where Jerry is a deacon.
 

Michael Carter, BSN, MNSc, PhD
After 18 years as Dean of the University of Tennessee College of Nursing, Michael was appointed University Distinguished Professor and Dean Emeritus.  Sarah (College of Medicine, 1965) retired from the VA and they have moved to a lake-front home in Heber Springs.  He continues to teach online courses in the MSN, DNSc, and PhD programs as well as other activities for the university.  They are working on developing practice activities here as well.

Works in the Cardiac ICU of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
 

Bonnie Taylor Dodson, BSN
Works at the Department of Health in Forrest City.
 

Janice Andrews Eifling, BSN
She has worked at UAMS for 25 years and is now working in Nurseries.  Janice has two sons:  Chris, 19, who is a freshmen in college, and Stephen, 7, who is in the first grade. Her hobbies are quilting and jogging.

Ethel "Lu" Teague Elliott, MNSc
After her husband’s retirement, Lu is now teaching at Garland County Community College in Hot Springs, AR.

Patricia Young Fitts, BSN
Patricia is married with two children, Rachel (17) and Thomas (16). She is the Head Nurse in Ambulatory Service at Lanier Health Services in West Point, GA.
 

Sharon Marie France, RN
Sharon has been married 21 years to Ed France.  She has 4 children:  Michael, 19, Elizabeth, 17, Jennifer 15, and Caroline, 9. She has worked part time since nursing school so she could be home with her children.  Michael is a sophomore at U of A, Fayetteville.                                                            

                                                                                                                    Karen Guenther Moreland Gillette, BSN
Karen received her MSN, GNP in 1998 and is currently working as an instructor with the Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Program at the Vanderbilt School of Nursing. She is married to Dr. Gregory Gillette and they have five children ranging in age from 19 to 3.

 

Helen Gordon, BSN
Helen works for the American College of Nurse Midwives in Raleigh, NC. She is the Project Manager for the ACNM-MCH Providers Partnership Cooperative Agreement. This is the first time that American College has received this grant. In October, Helen spoke at the University of Michigan’s Nurse–Midwifery Business Institute.

Neena Shipman Grissom, BSN
Neena is a Clinical Assistant Professor at UAMS College of Nursing.  She is the 2000 recipient of "Best Classroom Teacher" award.

 

Kathy Hillis, BSN, MNSc
Kathy works at the Wadley Regional Hospice & Home Medical Equipment Service in Waco, Texas.

Linda Hirsh
Linda Hirsh, a certified nurse-midwife and former University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Nursing student and instructor has received the 2006 Trailblazer Award from the YWCA in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. 

Hirsh helped pave the way for midwifery to become an accepted and popular option for women today.  In 1979 she worked on the first state legislation that set standards for certified nurse-midwives and allowed them to be recognized for the first time as medical professionals. 

Hirsh has been a certified nurse-midwife at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse for almost 30 years.  She is the longest serving certified nurse-midwife in Wisconsin and she was the second practicing certified nurse-midwife when she moved to LaCrosse in the mid 1970s.

While at UAMS, Hirsh was named Outstanding Nursing Student in 1970, the year she graduated from the College of Nursing with a bachelor's degree in nursing.  She also was an obstetrics-gynecology nurse-practitioner and clinical nursing instructor at UAMS for four years.  She received her master's degree in Nurse-Midwifery from Columbia University in New York in 1975. 

 

Beverly K. Mullen Ketchum, BSN
She is a Pediatric nurse Practitioner at VAB, a Huntsville Program, in the school of Medicine, and has been there for 20 years. She has faculty responsibility for medical students and family practice residents.


Lynnette (Lyn) Noe McCright, BSN
Mrs. McCright’s primary focus is Mary Kay Cosmetics.  She is an independent beauty consultant with 18 team members nationwide. She is also a health consultant, concentrating on chronic fatigue syndrome, psychology of mind and alternative health care referrals. Lyn is licensed as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, Adult Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Specialist in Community Health Nursing. After her husband (Ted Lawson) retired as a LTC in the US Army Dental Corps, the McCright’s moved to Waco, TX where he now has a private practice. Her daughter Emily (17) loves to play the flute.  Lyn enjoys their new swimming pool and walking their dog, Snuggles. She also loves to entertain her niece and cousin’s son, who are freshmen at Baylor University-Waco.


Jayanna McCulloch, BSN, MSE
Jayanna received her BSN from UAMS in 1971 and her MSE from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, AR in 1975.  Member of Sigma Theta Tau, Nursing National Honor Society 1978.

For the past 20 years, Johanna has worked in the field of Diabetes Education. She currently works part-time as a diabetes educator. For fun, she enjoys traveling to Mexico and learning Spanish.

Dan Parker, MNSc, MBA                                                                       Dan works at CNA Health Partners.  Arkansas Business of the Year Finalist, 1987.  While Chief Operating Officer at CNA Health Partners.
 

Sheila M. Webb Pilcher, BSN
Senior Staff nurse in NICU. She has 2 children, Anthony & Bethany. Anthony just graduated from Notre Dame with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, and is working for GE Aerospace in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Bethany is in her third year at Henderson State University, studying to be a profiler for the FBI.


Jacqueline Harris Sanner, BSN
Jacqueline is a major in the Army Reserves Nurse Corps. She currently divides her time between the Children’s Hospital of Austin and the Austin Independent School District.

Sarah Irene Shirley, BSN, MSN
Sarah received her BSN in 1971 and her MSN in 1974.  She currently works at the Central Arkansas V.A. Hospital and was a recent recipient of the Secretary's Hands and Heart Award.

Cornelia Sundermann, MNSc
Mrs. Richard Sundermann, an Associate Professor Emertia of the UAMS College of Nursing, is currently retired. 

Marlene Thompson, BSN
Married to Don McAllister, Marlene has one daughter, Taylor, who is the joy of their lives! She has an independent consulting practice specializing in patient-centered organizational alignment. She emphasizes total quality and has worked with a variety of international virtual teams. Marlene is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and the American Organization of Nurse Executives.

Deborah Thornhill, MNSc
On December 21, 2004, she welcomed the birth of her granddaughter, Kaylee Jewel Smith.

Janet "Jan" Turner, BSN, MSNc

1994:  ADH Area VIII Director of Nursing.
1996 Her son, Brad Turner, died in an automobile accident.
1998 Scholar-South Central Public Health Leadership Institute.
2000-Certificate:  Graduate certificate program in public health, Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.

Janet Wagner, RN, FNP, BSN, MSN
My education from UAMS has served me well.  I practiced as a RN, FNP, went on to receive a MSN in Burn and Trauma/minor in Admin, and now I am a CEO of a multiple hospital system in California, Sutter Health."  She has also authored chapters in text books on Pediatric Trauma.

Nancy Williams, MNSc
Nancy was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in February 2005.

Sally Young
Daughter, Iris, is attending University of Arkansas in Fayetteville on a full scholarship.  Sally is doing a free women's clinic once a month in Fayetteville.  She is studying Reiki healing.
